"Stacked Batik"

Photograph taken at the Pasar Klewer, the "hanging market" in Solo, Central Java.

The intricate designs on batik are created through a wax resistant dying process. Now the wax is mainly applied using a stamp (cap), however in the traditional handmade process (batik tulis), many months of work can go into the creation of each piece.
